The Trump administration has just made a major move to reform the Social Security Program.
The Social Security Trust Fund is expected to run out of funding by 2035.
In fact, this year, Social Security is expected to pay out more in benefits than it is taking in.
Unless something is done immediately, the Social Security program might not be there for future generations.
To help reform the program, the Trump Administration has just announced a new rule: access will be limited to Social Security diability benefits for non-English speakers.
More details are below:
Trump campaigned on ending wasteful government spending.
The rule is intended to limit access to disability benefits to those who truly need it and are entitled to those benefits.
Fox Business has details on the new program rules:
The Trump administration finalized a rule this week that would limit access to Social Security disability benefits for non-English speakers, part of the president’s ongoing efforts to tighten work requirements and impose restrictions for anti-poverty programs.
The Social Security Administration announced a rule Monday that would eliminate English speaking as an assessment of an applicants’ education. It would go into effect on April 27. Whether or not an applicant speaks English is one of several factors, like education level, used to check whether that individual has the capacity to find work outside of their medical condition.
“It is important that we have an up-to-date disability program,” Social Security Commission Andrew Saul said in a news release. “The workforce and work opportunities have changed and outdated regulations need to be revised to reflect today’s world.”
Eliminating that factor would make it more difficult for individuals who don’t speak English to obtain aid. The federal government pays disability benefits worth an average of $1,200 per month to people who are unable to work because of the onset of a severe illness or injury. An estimated 8.5 million received disabled-worker benefits, which are financed by part of the Social Security payroll tax.
The amount of fraud happening in government spending is tremendous.
This is an excellent move by the Trump administration to begin reigning in wasteful government spending.
It is important to note that this new rule does NOT limit social security disability benefits to those who speak another language.
Rather, it just tightens the rules to make sure only eligible citizens receive the benefit.
Remember, Trump promised and is fulfilling his promise to protect Social Security and Medicare!
Predictably, Democrats have slammed the decision.
However, they appear to be overlooking the fact that this rule is going to save the Social Security program for those who truly need it.
The new rule does not block access altogether.
Rather, it just better defines the requirements necessary to prove eligibility.
The Hill has more on the desperate Democrats' backlash:
Democrats slammed the decision.
"With this rule, the Trump administration will deny people the Social Security disability benefits they’ve earned," said Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), who chairs the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security.
"For years, Social Security's rules recognized that for an older worker applying for disability benefits with severe health conditions, and with no or little transferable job skills, the inability to communicate in English poses an additional barrier to work. The new rule will end [the Social Security Administration's] consideration of this obstacle," he added.
The rule, he estimated, would affect some 10,000 people a year.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), who chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, called the rule a "disgrace."
"The administration has provided no valid evidence that these workers will be able to make ends meet without this support from the federal government," she said.
Remember, Trump is simply trying to put America first!
In order to do that, he is doing what is necessary to reform and preserve programs like Social Security and Medicare!
