It’s official.
Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act.
He currently faces a sentence ranging from 5 to 25 years in prison.
Now that film mogul Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of rape and committing a criminal sexual act, a video of Michelle Obama heaping praise on Weinstein has resurfaced.
In the video, Obama called Weinstein a “wonderful human being.”
Don’t take our word for it.
You can see the video for yourself below:
Many sharp eyes noticed Whoopi Goldberg in the background.
This isn't surprising to anyone who's followed Weinstein's actions over the years.
Many Hollywood and D.C. elite have questionable ties with Weinstein.
Hillary Clinton, Meryl Streep, and Oprah are just a few of those who've been reported to have friendly connections with Weinstein.
Newsweek has more details on Michelle Obama's comments:
Video of former First Lady Michelle Obama praising convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein at a White House event resurfaced on Twitter Monday.
Obama's remarks were posted by Wojciech Pawelczyk who describes himself in his Twitter bio as a "video researcher and Trump supporter for Poland." Pawelczyk also says he is a video editor for War Room, the podcast headed by Steve Bannon. Bannon, who briefly served as chief strategist for President Donald Trump, was also formerly the head of the alt-right website Breitbart News.
"Michelle Obama: Harvey Weinstein is a wonderful human being, a good friend and just a powerhouse (November 8, 2013)," tweeted Pawelczyk. The video was culled from Obama's remarks from the first White House Careers in Film Symposium which featured guests such as Whoopi Goldberg, Gayle King and Blake Lively.
"I want to start by thanking Harvey Weinstein for organizing this amazing day," Obama said to attendees. "This is possible because of Harvey. He is a wonderful human being, a good friend and just a powerhouse. The fact that he and his team took the time to make this happen to all of you should say something not about at me or about this place, but about you. Everybody here, here because of you."
Newsweek reached out to Obama for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
The resurfaced video has sparked outrage from many, including Juanita Broaddrick.
Of course, after the allegations came out around Harvey Weinstein, many of the Hollywood and D.C. elite began distancing themselves from the disgraced mogul.
After the conviction, many people who once called him friend are now denying that they ever had anything to do with him.
Obama's relationship with Weinstein appears to go back several years.
In fact, it was Harvey Weinstein and his daughter who arranged to have Michelle Obama present the 2013 Academy Award for Best Picture of the Year.
The Hollywood Reporter details Weinstein's role in the presentation:
The mogul and his daughter connected the Academy and the show's producers, who flew in secret to Washington, D.C., two weeks ago.
Michelle Obama presenting best picture from the White House? It was Harvey Weinstein's daughter's idea.
According to Academy president Hawk Koch, the plan came from Weinstein and his daughter, Lily. Koch and Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron loved the idea. Zadan tells The Hollywood Reporter that when it was pitched to the first lady, her response was: "Yes, I think it's a great idea. We watch movies all the time at the White House. Let's do it."
So, two weeks ago, Koch and the producers borrowed Disney's jet for a flight to D.C. They told their colleagues, though, that they had to go to New York for the day. "The planning of it was like Argo -- it was a CIA mission, it was so complicated," Zadan says. "We didn't even want anyone to know where we were going."
Once they arrived, they joined up with Weinstein and his daughter and then they all met with members of the first lady's staff to hammer out the details. The staff took them through the available White House rooms so they could select one for the broadcast. They were asked whether the Obama should appear alone or with a group, and the producers suggested having members of the military join in.
Why is it that Democrats seem to have an affinity for associating with questionable characters?
