Women’s U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe used the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year awards on Monday as an opportunity to take (another) hit at President Trump.

During the awards ceremony, she told Reuters, “I think the most important thing is to get that maniac out of the White House.”

She added in her plans for 2020, “Get me on the bus, get me on one of those planes. I want to rile people up! Something about me is motivating people to do something, or people are interested.  If I’ve got to knock on doors to get people to vote, I’m down.”

Rapinoe was selected by Sports Illustrated as 2019 Sportsperson of the Year.

Here's more on Rapinoe's response to her win via Reuters:

From award shows to magazine covers, it can often feel as though Megan Rapinoe is everywhere - and soon, that might include rallies for Democratic presidential candidates.

The U.S. women’s national soccer team’s fiery co-captain is not running for office. But after helping the Americans clinch a second consecutive World Cup title, the 34-year-old winger is setting her sights on helping the 2020 presidential field.

From “smart and sharp” Elizabeth Warren, to “radical” Bernie Sanders and “charismatic” Cory Booker, Rapinoe is finding plenty to rally behind in the Democratic field.

“I think the most important thing is to get that maniac out of the White House,” Rapinoe told Reuters on Monday at Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year awards, where she was bestowed the top prize.

The Ballon D’or winner caught the ire of U.S. President Donald Trump during her team’s World Cup run, after an expletive-punctuated clip of her saying she would not visit the White House if they won the tournament emerged before the team’s quarter-final match.

On Monday, she reiterated that now-famous pledge and said she was ready to hit the road to rally support for his eventual opponent.

“Get me on the bus, get me on one of those planes,” Rapinoe said. “I want to rile people up! Something about me is motivating people to do something, or people are interested.

“If I’ve got to knock on doors to get people to vote, I’m down.”

The Hill also said:

After winning gold in the 2019 women’s soccer world cup, U.S. Women’s National Team star Megan Rapinoe has her sights set on a new goal: helping elect a Democrat to the White House in 2020.

Reuters reports the 34-year-old, two-time World Cup champion will put her efforts toward campaigning for the eventual Democratic nominee who will take on President Trump next year.

“I think the most important thing is to get that maniac out of the White House,” Rapinoe told the news service Monday at Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year awards, where she was honored with the prize for both her efforts on the pitch as well as her role in leading the team in its lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation for equal pay.

Rapinoe famously made headlines over the summer when she said she's "not going to the f---ing White House” to celebrate if the team were to win the World Cup. Trump hit back after the video went viral, tweeting that “Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the Job!”

Rapinoe on Monday reportedly bestowed several compliments to Democratic candidates in the 2020 field, describing Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as “smart and sharp” while praising the “radical” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). She also called Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) “charismatic.”

“Get me on the bus, get me on one of those planes,” Rapinoe said, according to Reuters. “I want to rile people up! Something about me is motivating people to do something, or people are interested."

She added that she is ready to knock on doors “to get people to vote.”
