President Trump has gotten a lot of hate over his trade war with China after decades of America not doing anything about being ripped off by foreign countries to the tune of billions of dollar per year.
But, he’s not apologizing!
When asked about China tarrifs by reporters yesterday, Trump spoke the truth that nobody seems to understand,
“Somebody had to do something with China. Obama should have done it. Bush should have done it. Clinton should have done it. They all should have done it. Nobody did it. I’m doing it.”
Keep in mind that President Trump didn’t have to do anything with China. He could have pretended everything was merry and roses while sweeping looming issues under the rug for a future president to have to deal with (like the presidents before him.) As Trump pointed out,
“I could be sitting right now with a stock market that would be up 10,000 points higher if I didn’t want to do it. You should be happy that I’m fighting this battle because somebody had to do it. I don’t think it’s sustainable with what was happening.”
Breitbart has more to say about the president's defense of the China trade war:
“Someone had to take on China, we’re winning big,” he said.
The president commented to the press about his China policy during an Oval Office meeting with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.
Trump said he would continue his fight with China despite any short term consequences to the American economy.
“It’s about time, whether it’s good for this country or bad for this country short term,” he said. “Long term, it’s imperative that somebody does this.”
Trump said that his life could be easier if he continued to ignore the problem with China, but vowed to keep up the fight.
“I could be sitting right now with a stock market that would be up 10,000 points higher if I didn’t want to do it,” he said and added, “You should be happy that I’m fighting this battle because somebody had to do it. I don’t think it’s sustainable with what was happening.”
Trump appeared annoyed by critics of his tough stance against China, saying that the country had been ripping off the United States for 25 years.
“Obama should have done it, Bush should have done it, Clinton should have done it, they all should have done it, nobody did it, I’m doing it,” he said.
Earlier today, President Trump again held his resolve when it comes to conquering the lingering trade issues with China.
He told reporters at the White House,
“Somebody had to take China on. This is something that had to be done. The only difference is I am doing it."
Reuters has more to say on this:
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he had to confront China over trade even if it caused short-term harm to the U.S. economy because Beijing had been cheating Washington for decades.
Trump’s strongly worded comments came hours before his government announced approval of an $8 billion sale of Lockheed Martin (LMT.N) F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan, a move sure to draw Beijing’s ire and further dim prospects for a quick trade deal.
On Monday, Vice President Mike Pence had also poked China on another sensitive topic, Hong Kong, calling on Beijing to respect the integrity of the former British colony’s laws in its response to mass protests there.
“Somebody had to take China on,” Trump told reporters during a White House visit by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, when asked about wide-ranging tariffs he has imposed on imports from China. “This is something that had to be done. The only difference is I am doing it,” he said.
“China has been ripping this country off for 25 years, for longer than that and it’s about time whether it’s good for our country or bad for our country short term. Long term it’s imperative that somebody does this,” he said.
