This is worse than sports stars refusing to kneel during the national anthem.
Now, we have someone who wants to be president of the United States refusing to give our nation and our flag the honor it deserves.
Prior to the Dem debate, Democrat presidential hopeful Tim Ryan did not properly salute the American flag during the national anthem.
He stood before the crowd and before our flag with his hand folded in front of his body, not with his hand on his heart.
Watch the national anthem here and pay careful attention to the placement of Ryan’s hands:Â
Here's a screenshot of the moment from Twitter:
People are rightfully outraged by Tim Ryan's refusal to salute the flag during the national anthem at the debates.
Take a look at what people on both sides of the political spectrum are saying about it on Twitter:
Even daughter of RINO John McCain called out Tim Ryan:
Fox News has more to say about Ryan's refusal to salute the flag:
Democratic presidential contender Tim Ryan stood out as the only candidate who didn't put his hand on his heart during a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the opening of Tuesday night's debate in Detroit, Â prompting commentators to zing the marginal candidate even before opening statements began.
Ryan, D-Ohio, stood alongside South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, author Marianne Williamson, former Maryland Rep. John Delaney, former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock.
As the national anthem played, Ryan was the only candidate to stand with his hands clasped in front of his body, rather than at his chest.
"Rep. Tim Ryan didn’t put his hand over his heart during the national anthem," wrote former George W. Bush press secretary and Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer. "I guess he’s appealing to the Kaepernick wing of the Democratic Party."
Added Meghan McCain: "Put your hand over your heart for the star spangled banner Tim Ryan!!!"
The Daily Wire's Ryan Saavedra wrote, "All these candidates have contempt for America, Tim Ryan is just choosing to be honest about it."
The Washington Examiner also commented:
Tim Ryan was the only Democratic candidate who did not put his hand over his heart during the national anthem at the second round of primary debates. The American flag was being presented by a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
ÂFellow candidate Marianne Williamson at first did not have her hand on her heart, but she eventually placed it there halfway through the anthem after glancing at the others.Â
ÂAccording to the U.S. flag code, when the national anthem is played, "all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart."
