Well, if Democrat Rep. John Rogers (D-AL) was trying to make Gov. Ralph Northam look like a moderate on abortion, he’s succeeding.
You might recall Northam faced immense backlash after his comments that seemed to suggest killing a baby (note I said baby) after it had been born and “made comfortable”.
In what seems like a game of “hold my beer, watch this”, Rogers recently made comments that sounded even worse.
Quote: Abortion “ought to be a woman’s choice. Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, and you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later.”
Yup.
Take a look at this:
The comments have been roundly condemned:
Here's a quick summary from LaCorte News:
Many Republican lawmakers are criticizing Rep. John Rogers (D-AL) for the remarks he made in opposition of a bill that bans abortion, approved by the Alabama House on Wednesday, reported The Hill.
Rogers' comments: Abortion "ought to be a woman’s choice. Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, and you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later."
The bill makes it a criminal felony for a doctor to perform an abortion, except in cases where the mother's life is in danger.
President Trump's response: "This is stomach curling and makes Ralph Northam look like a moderate on abortion. Every Democrat running for President needs to be asked where they stand on this. The extreme turn we've seen from Dems on abortion recently is truly sickening."
Other critics: "WHAT!?" wrote The Daily Wire. "This man is sick in the head. Absolutely disgusting," said The Daily Caller's Henry Rogers. "It's an abomination that Alabama has a Senator in @DougJones who is unabashedly pro-abortion & refuses to stand up to this type of extremism from members of his party in defense of innocent human life. Alabama deserves a 100% pro-life voice representing us in the US Senate," wrote Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL).
Fox News had even more, and expanded on the vile comments:
A Democratic state representative from Alabama is facing fierce backlash over his remarks in opposition to the abortion ban that was approved in his state, saying that "some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later."
The Republican-controlled House in Alabama overwhelming approved a bill that would make it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage of a pregnancy -- with a sole exemption for women whose health is at risk. The measure passed with a 74-3 vote. The bill will now advance to the state Senate.
Supporters of the legislation hope that the fight will carry on to the U.S. Supreme Courtand encourage the justices to revisit the landmark Roe v Wade decision that legalized abortion in 1973.
However, one of the state-level opponents to the anti-abortion legislation, Democratic Rep. John Rogers of Birningham, spoke out against the vote.
"Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later," Rogers said.
He continued by saying some children who face abortion could be "retarded" and "half-deformed."
Instead of apologizing, he dug in deeper, extending the comments to attack Don Jr.
Take a look at this second story, from Fox News:
The Democrat from Alabama who sparked outrage with his remarks defending abortionattacked Donald Trump Jr. saying he's "proof" that mothers should have the right to abort their children.
State Rep. John Rogers of Birmingham caused an uproar while expressing his opposition to the approved bill that would outlaw all abortions in Alabama with the exemption of women whose pregnancies cause a risk to their health.
"Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later," Rogers said.
This is completely unacceptable!
Why do we allow people who make comments like this to remain in Congress?
