The young, progressive, rising star Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is certainly ambitious, you can give her that.
But, unfortunately, her ideas for bettering our country’s future are naive and impractical, to say the least.
For example, take her proposed Green New Deal (which didn’t pass a test vote in the Senate.)
The Green New Deal, if it ever did come to pass, would cost trillions and trillions of dollars, but hey, it might (emphasis on the might) save the planet, according to Ocasio-Cortez.
At a recent National Republican Congressional Committee dinner, Trump, never one to shy down from calling it like he sees it, called Ocasio-Cortez out on her crazy ideas and referred to her as a “young bartender.”
Watch the clip for yourself:
Fox News had the following to say regarding Trump's address:
"The Green New Deal, done by a young bartender, 29 years old," Trump told the crowd of House GOP lawmakers. "A young bartender, wonderful young woman.”
Trump then blasted the Green New Deal as “the craziest thing,” and chided establishment Democrats as “petrified” of Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive ideas, the Hill reported.
"The Green New Deal. The first time I heard it, I said, 'That’s the craziest thing.' You have senators that are professionals, that you guys know, that have been there for a long time ... and they’re standing behind her shaking. They’re petrified of her," Trump said.
The Green New Deal calls for a massive overhaul of the nation’s economy and energy use, with an estimated cost that could reach well into the tens of trillions of dollars. The legislation failed to pass a test vote last week in the Senate.
Here's what The Hill said about Trump's opinion of Ocasio-Cortez:
Trump told House GOP lawmakers at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner that he didn't want to be too critical of the Green New Deal because he hoped to campaign against it. He went on to chide Ocasio-Cortez without explicitly naming her.
"The Green New Deal, done by a young bartender, 29 years old," Trump said, eliciting laughter from attendees.
"A young bartender, wonderful young woman," he continued. "The Green New Deal. The first time I heard it I said, 'That’s the craziest thing.' You have senators that are professionals that you guys know that have been there for a long time ... and they’re standing behind her shaking. They’re petrified of her."
Trump previously made similar comments about hoping to make Green New Deal a central part of his reelection bid. The proposal seeks to reduce emissions, increase clean energy use and boost the economy. It was blocked in the Senate last week after Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) brought it up for a vote.
