Sen. Grassley Refers Avenatti For SECOND Criminal Investigation!

Grassley is not letting up!

Too often, we Americans watch injustice play out on the national scene and then nothing ever comes of it.

No one is help accountable.

There’s no penalty for bad behavior.

It all gets swept under the rug, swept away by the next 24 news cycle.

But Sen. Chuck Grassley from Iowa is not letting that happen with Michael Avenatti and his antics during the Kavanaugh hearings.

Last week, Grassley referred Avenatti for a criminal investigation, and again this week he hit him with a second referral!

Let me tell you something, it’s a BAD DAY when the United States Congress is investigating you for criminal behavior!  And it’s a really bad day when it happens TWICE!

But Avenatti had a typical pig-headed, arrogant response.

Take a look, from The Hill:

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) announced Friday that he is issuing a second criminal referral regarding lawyer Michael Avenatti.

Grassley announced the move a day after referring Avenatti and his client, Julie Swetnick, to the Justice Department for a potential criminal investigation into whether they made false statements to Congress about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The GOP chairman indicated that the second referral was precipitated by an NBC News report on Thursday, which contended that Swetnick denied making key allegations, saying that Avenatti “twisted [her] words.”

Grassley wrote that based on the NBC report, “the purported declarant denied — both before and after the sworn statement was released — the key allegations Mr. Avenatti attributed to her.”

“She stated she was clear and consistent 'from day one' with Mr. Avenatti that those claims were not true. And she said Mr. Avenatti 'twisted [her] words.' When reporters pressed him on these discrepancies, Mr. Avenatti attempted to deceive them in an apparent effort to thwart the truth coming out," Grassley wrote.

Avenatti responded in a statement to The Hill, calling Grassley's referral "complete garbage."

"We want the investigation started this weekend so we can show how full of crap Grassley is ASAP. He knows nothing about the law, which is not surprising seeing as he never attended law school," he added.

And here's more, from CBS News:

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley on Friday referred lawyer Michael Avenatti to the Justice Department for a second criminal investigation, alleging that Avenatti had submitted a fraudulent sworn statement to the committee on Oct. 2. Grassley also referred Avenatti and his client, Julie Swetnick, to the Justice Department for a separate investigation Thursday, for three separate crimes: conspiracy, providing false statements to Congress and obstructing a Senate investigation.

Swetnick was the third woman to publicly accuse Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct in September, before Kavanaugh was confirmed. She alleged that he and his friend Mark Judge were present at a high school party when she was gang raped by a series of boys after her drink was spiked. Swetnick also accused Kavanaugh of helping facilitate gang rapes when he was in high school. Kavanaugh vehemently denied these allegations, which were subsequently walked back by Swetnick.

In a letter to the Justice Department, Grassley wrote that his second referral stemmed "from a second declaration he submitted to the Committee that also appears to contain materially false statements." Grassley cited an NBC News report from Thursday that alleged inconsistencies in a sworn statement by a woman submitted to the Judiciary Committee that was supposed to bolster Swetnick's claim.
