A 17-year-old student in Las Vegas died last week after collapsing and being found unresponsive in a school bathroom.

Jordan Brister was at school on January 3rd when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest.

Brister was a senior high school student at Amplus Academy, a public charter school.

Amplus Academy posted information about Brister’s death on its Facebook page:

It is with deep sadness and sympathy that we announce the passing of one of our Senior High School students, Jordan Brister.

The Amplus community sends our love and condolences to the Brister family as well as to all of Jordan’s family, friends and acquaintances.

Those that would like to support the family financially can do so by using the Go Fund Me that has been set up on Jordan’s behalf. Link in our Instagram profile or on Facebook.

Brister reportedly collapsed in the bathroom and may have been there for as long as 25 minutes before he was discovered, according to his father.

His heart stopped during that time.

School officials provided lifesaving support, and Brister was transported to a nearby hospital.

Tragically, he passed away five days after his medical emergency.

KLAS reported:
Jordan Brister was in ICU at Southern Hills Hospital. The Clark County coroner’s office listed Brister’s date of death as Sunday, Jan. 8. He was an organ donor.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family pay for the teen’s funeral. It reads, “Jordan Tyler Brister suddenly and unexpectedly suffered cardiac arrest while at school with no explanation as to why. Jordan was a senior in high school who planned to join the military after graduating.”
The goal was to raise $20,000, however, more than 500 donations exceeded the goal and raised $37,000.
“No amount of money can take away the hurt that this wonderful family is going through. But with all of your help, they can at least focus on what is important. Giving Jordan the resting place he deserves and each other. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. The Brister family feels your love,” stated a Tuesday post on the GoFundMe account.
The GoFundMe page stated:
The Brister family has suffered a tremendous loss, a loss none of them were prepared for. Jordan Tyler Brister suddenly and unexpectedly suffered cardiac arrest while at school with no explanation as to why. Jordan was a senior in high school who planned to join the military after graduating. Words cannot express what the Brister family is going through and there will never be enough answers as to why this has happened. He was an amazing kid who loved life to the fullest.

Brister’s mother, Savanna, released this statement:

Jordan was a selfless, respectful, Southern gentleman who was kind to everyone. He was witty and charming. He wanted to join the military to become a para rescue jumper to save others. In the end, he saved others through donation of organs, so his dream was somewhat fulfilled. He was a wise, older brother who cared deeply for his brother and sister. Jordan was truly everything you could ask for and more. He had a heart of gold.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office is investigating Brister’s death.

A cause of death has not been announced at this time.
