Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted to a hospital in Florida, a source close to his family said on Monday, adding that his condition was “not worrying”.
Brazilian newspaper O Globo had reported earlier in the day that Bolsonaro had been suffering from abdominal pain.
The breaking news follows reports of Bolsonaro supporters storming the Brazilian Congress and presidential palace on Sunday.
BREAKING: Bolsonaro Supporters Reportedly Storm Brazilian National Congress, Presidential Palace
As Fox News noted, many Democrats have called for Bolsonaro to be extradited from Florida to Brazil following the incident.
Many Democrats are calling for former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro to be removed from his Florida getaway after thousands of his supporters attacked the Brazilian Capitol, Presidential Palace and Supreme Court on Sunday.
Bolsonaro offered meager criticism of the riots Sunday evening and denied any involvement in inciting them. Democrats have compared the attack to the pro-Trump storming of the U.S. Capitol in January 2021. Like former President Donald Trump, Bolsonaro refused to concede to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and did not attend his inauguration.
"Two years ago out Capitol was attacked by fanatics, now we are watching it happen in Brazil," Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., tweeted Sunday "Solidarity with [President] Lula and the Brazilian people. Democracies around the world must stand united to condemn this attack on democracy."
"Bolsonaro should not be given refuge in Florida," she added.
Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, and Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, echoed the call.
"The U.S. must cease granting refuge to Bolsonaro in Florida," Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
Castro also called for Bolsonaro to be extradited to Brazil during an appearance on CNN. Omar's office did not immediately respond when asked whether she supported such a move.
Two years ago our Capitol was attacked by fanatics, now we are watching it happen in Brazil.
Solidarity with Lula and the Brazilian people.
Democracies around the world must stand united to condemn this attack on democracy.
Bolsonaro should not be given refuge in Florida.

Nearly 2 years to the day the US Capitol was attacked by fascists, we see fascist movements abroad attempt to do the same in Brazil.
We must stand in solidarity with @LulaOficial’s democratically elected government. 🇧🇷
The US must cease granting refuge to Bolsonaro in Florida. https://t.co/rzsZl9jwZY

Others have speculated that Brazil's 'J8' had other similarities to America's J6.
"Spoke with several Brazilian friends. Today was another trap, textbook copy of Jan 6th. All buildings were empty and left unguarded. Military is now crushing protestors, making arrests, and we will see the persecution of these Brazilians just as we have seen Americans with 1/6," Ian Smith tweeted.
