Steve Bannon did nothing wrong by refusing to testify before a kangaroo court…
He did what Hank Rearden, one of the protagonists of Atlas Shrugged, would have done—he forced them to use force against him and expose the communists and tyrants behind the iron wall of federal agencies and committees.
Prosecutors did exactly that by seeking the maximum penalty:

Steve Bannon has since filed for an appeal to overturn his conviction and legal expert Gregg Jarrett is confident that he has “strong legal grounds” to overturn his conviction.
However, despite these “strong legal grounds”, all 3 judges on the panel for Steve Bannon’s appeal were appointed by Obama and Biden:

Jarrett’s claims came via Conservative Brief:
In his article, Jarrett cites what he called a potentially wrongfully applied “willful” defiance of a subpoena that is predicated on a “61-year-old circuit court case that was based on a Supreme Court decision that was later repudiated by the high court and overturned.”
“Even U.S. district court judge Carl Nichols recognizes that Bannon’s contempt conviction is likely to get tossed out, which is why he took the extraordinary step of issuing a stay of sentence pending appeal.
When Bannon was subpoenaed by the J-6 Committee, Trump’s lawyer sent him a letter stating that the president invoked executive privilege and therefore directed him not to testify. Trump holds the privilege, not Bannon.
Under law, Bannon cannot waive it or violate it. So, on advice of his own counsel, Bannon declined to testify. It was the correct advice,” Jarrett wrote.
"DOJ Recommends Outrageous Sentence for Steve Bannon"
For his conviction on Contempt of Congress, the DoJ wants Bannon to serve 6 months in jail and pay a $200k fine, both of which are unheard of. When the GOP regains control of the House, subpoenas need to fly out the door.— Gray Wolf (@graywolf442) October 18, 2022
