What’s going on off the California coast?

The U.S. Navy reportedly experienced a fire onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln that injured nine sailors.

The aircraft carrier was operating off the coast of Southern California.

From Fox News:

A fire that broke out onboard the Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has injured nine sailors.

The blaze erupted Tuesday morning and those affected are “reported to have suffered minor injuries and have been treated aboard the ship,” according to a spokesperson from the Navy’s 3rd Fleet.

“The fire was quickly identified and extinguished through the crew’s fire-fighting efforts,” the spokesperson added.

The USS Abraham Lincoln, which is part of the Navy’s 3rd Fleet based in San Diego, was “conducting routine operations approximately 30 miles off the coast of Southern California when the incident occurred,” the Navy said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, two Navy ships nearly collided in San Diego Bay.

Military Times reported:

The Navy is investigating what led to two service ships nearly colliding Tuesday in San Diego Bay.

The purported close call involved the guided-missile destroyer Momsen and the dock landing ship Harpers Ferry.

Officials did not confirm precisely what time the incident occurred Tuesday, but a video of the encounter was posted to Twitter at about 10:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time by the @SanDiegoWebCam account.

“Warship Chicken in San Diego Bay,” the text accompanying the video states.

The video shows Momsen and Harpers Ferry headed straight toward each other before each ship turns left.

The footage also appears to include audio of the ship’s crews communicating their moves.

While the ships were transiting in opposite directions “in close vicinity” Tuesday, both ships maneuvered to safety, according to U.S. 3rd Fleet spokesman Lt. Samuel Boyle.

There were no reported injuries or damage to the ships.
