Republicans were expected to win New Hampshire District 16.
The Republican was ahead by 23 votes.
While this was a slim margin, it was widely anticipated that the recount wouldn’t change the outcome of the election.
Well… it turns out that assumption was wrong.

The Democrat has been declared the winner of District 16.
After the recount, the Democrat erased the 23 vote deficit and has won with 1 vote.
That’s right: The Democrat gained 24 votes after the recount.

Isn’t it strange how Democrats can ask for recounts and no one calls them “election deniers”?
Yet, they seem to always win these recounts?
But whenever a Republican asks for an audit or a recount, we were called a “threat to democracy.”
A 1-vote margin is extremely close no matter what.
But the Democrat has been declared the winner.
Newsweek confirms:
A seat in the New Hampshire House of Representatives flipped from Republican to Democrat by the narrowest of margins after a recount.
The race for the Hillsborough County House District 16 seat in Manchester, saw Democrat Maxine Mosley defeat her Republican opponent Larry Gagne by a single vote.
Mosley won the seat with 1,799 votes to Gagne’s 1,798. Before the recount, Gagne led Mosley by 23 votes.
Adam Sexton, the political director for Manchester news outlet WMUR, gave updates on the ongoing recounts on his Twitter feed.
“Shocker in Manchester’s Ward 6 New Hampshire House of Representative race – after she congratulated Gagne, there was still counting left and it turns out Maxine Mosley won by a single vote. A flip for the Democrats,” he wrote in a tweet on Monday.
Nathaniel Rakich, a senior election analyst at election tracker Five Thirty-Eight, also commented on the shocking turnaround.
“Wow! Democrats erased a 23-vote deficit in a recount to win this NH House seat by ONE vote,” he tweeted. “They need to do the same in 3 more seats to win a majority.”
Despite this loss, Republicans are still poised to take the House.

This was a race with a photo finish.
You would have thought that the national media would be all over this race.
Yet aside from Newsweek, it seems that only local outlets are covering this story.
According to the local Manchester Ink Link:
Following a recount, Democrat Maxine Mosley has now defeated Republican Larry Gagne in the Hillsborough 16 House District, consisting of Manchester’s Ward 6, by a final total of 1799 to 1798.
Heading into Monday, Mosley trailed Gagne, 1797 to 1820.
On Monday evening, Mosley said she was overwhelmed by the result, and was told by Secretary of State representatives that a swing of more than nine votes is rare, so this result was historic.
“I did not really anticipate that I could pull it off, but I wanted to use the process of recount to make sure that everyone that supported me knew I was doing everything in my power to have the most verifiable vote at the end,” she said. “I will take today as a win with great, great gratitude.
“It’s very unusual, especially in Manchester with the machines we have to make up 24 votes, we were winning by 23. I don’t know what happened,” said Gagne.
Mosley also praised Gagne as well as Republican Will Infantine and Democrat Holly Hillhouse, with the four seeking the two seats from Hillsborough 16.
“Everybody was gracious and there was no nastiness and no negative politicking, it was as it should be, you run on your merits. I am very appreciative of all of candidates,” she said.
