Republican Gubernatorial Candidates Take Lead in Multiple Blue States

Things are getting interesting in three blue states heading towards election day.

In New York, Republican candidate Lee Zeldin now holds a 1-point lead ahead of Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul in a newly-released poll.

While not every poll has Zeldin ahead of Hochul, the Republican candidate has gained significant ground on the Democrat seeking her first elected term.

Breitbart reported:

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) has gained significant ground in New York’s gubernatorial race and is now within “striking distance” of Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), with inflation and crime as the leading issues, a new poll revealed on Thursday.

Zeldin has seen a 16-point swing in his favor with likely voters since August, as Hochul is now under 50 percent in the final weeks of the gubernatorial race.

Thursday’s SurveyUSA and News10NBC poll found that Hochul is currently under 50 percent and only leading by six points, with only 47 percent of the support from likely November voters, while 41 percent said they would support Zeldin to replace Hochul, who’s vying for her first elected term as governor. Only four percent voted for someone else, and eight percent were undecided.

In comparison, the SurveyUSA poll in August showed Hochul leafing Zeldin by 24 points. That poll showed Hochul with 55 percent of the support from likely November voters and Zeldin only at 31 percent. At the time, there were also 14 percent undecided.

On both polls, inflation is the number one issue, while crime has become the second most important issue for likely voters on the most recent poll.

While inflation has been rising across the country, crime has been rampant in the Empire State. New York Democrats, in 2019, passed the so-called “No Bail” law that ultimately eliminated bail for a number of criminal suspects accused of committing crimes.

In Minnesota, Republican candidate Dr. Scott Jensen is now leading Democrat Gov. Tim Walz.

A new Trafalgar Group poll has Jensen ahead of Walz 46.3% to 45.8%.

Alpha News reported:

Democratic Gov. Tim Walz and Republican opponent Dr. Scott Jensen faced off for their second debate Tuesday night.

The debate, which was only available online for most Minnesotans, was hosted by Gray Television in the Rochester, Duluth, Mankato, and Fargo markets.

Walz only agreed to a TV debate without an audience outside of the Twin Cities market.

Walz and Jensen butted heads on the governor’s response to a number of crises, like the 2020 George Floyd riots and the Feeding Our Future scandal.

While Minnesotans are feeling the effects of the increase in costs for everyday goods due to inflation, the state holds a $9 billion surplus.

Walz on this said, “We’re proud of our progressive taxation system and our fairness in taxes. And we make sure those who are doing well pay their fair share.”

“You get what you pay for in Minnesota,” he went on.

“Well, if you get what you pay for in Minnesota, I guess Gov. Walz didn’t pay very much for the police because we’ve got a lawlessness like we’ve never seen before,” Jensen fired back.

When asked about the response to the 2020 riots, Walz stated, “I’m proud of Minnesota’s response.”

Real Clear Politics provided an update in Michigan’s gubernatorial race between Republican candidate Tudor Dixon and Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

RCP now predicts Tudor Dixon to win the race.
