Republican Senator Benn Sasse of Nebraska has announced he will resign from office.

Senator Sasse who is best known for proudly declaring he voted to impeach Trump has decided to leave the Senate to accept a position as President of the University of Florida.

Sen. Sasse has decided that he will resign midterm in order to leave for a higher page job as the President of the University of Florida.

The move by Sasse is speculated to be motivated by money considering the current President of the University of Florida rakes in close to a million a year whereas a Senator earns around $176,000

CNN Had more details to contribute:

Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska plans to resign from the Senate by the end of the year to take a job as the president of the University of Florida, according to a source familiar with the deliberations.

The University of Florida’s presidential search committee voted unanimously to name Sasse as their sole finalist for president of the university, the source said. Now, Sasse will go to Florida and meet with students and staff. Then there needs to be a vote by the University of Florida board of trustees and board of governors to formalize the process. All that is expected to happen over the next several weeks and into November.

“When he accepts that offer, he would resign,” the source said. “We anticipate this will happen by the end of the year.”

KFAB News was first to report on the planned resignation. CNN has reached out to Sasse’s office for comment.

The Post Millennial got the scoop too:

NATIONAL POLL: Do You Trust Fox News?

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) will announce his intention to resign from Senate on Wednesday. Sasse is stepping down in order to accept a position at an academic institution, a local outlet reports.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the University of Florida considers Sasse to be “the lone finalist to be the school’s next president.”

The process “could take a bit,” according to KFAB reporter Ian Swanson. “While the process could take a bit, the announcements are expected ‘imminently.'”

“I want to be clear here: this is a process that will take time, so the resignation will not take effect today. The process will be announced today, and I am told to expect the resignation to actually be made official in December,” Swanson said in a tweet.
