Chicago Man Allegedly Tries to Rob Florida Gas Station, Instantly Regrets His Decision

There are few places that suffer from as much crime in the United States as the city of Chicago.

One Chicago man travelled all the way to a gas station in Florida while holding a shotgun in a possible robbery attempt.

He instantly regretted that decision…

Rakim Stephen Tate, 32, entered a Florida convenience store on September 9th while wielding a large shotgun.

Unfortunately for Tate, the store clerk saw him arming himself before entering the store.

This allowed the clerk time to procure his own weapon as Tate entered.

According to the clerk, and surveillance footage, the would-be robber had a sudden change of heart.

“I don’t mean no harm, I’m just not from around here,” Tate began mumbling to the clerk.

“I got a big (expletive) gun, but I’m not from around here is what I’m saying. I’m from Chicago bro.”

Tate then asked the clerk what type of gun he was holding.

The clerk’s answer prompted Tate to swiftly make his exit.

He was arrested on September 15th.

Daily Mail has more on what may have been a failed robbery attempt:

A man wielding a shotgun strolled into a Florida convenience store during an attempted robbery, but made a swift exit once the store clerk displayed his own weapon, authorities say.

Rakim Stephen Tate, 32, walked into a convenience store in Pensacola, Florida on September 9, brandishing a large and visible shotgun at his side.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, he has been charged with attempted robbery and openly carrying a prohibited firearm.

In the surveillance footage, Tate can be seen talking to the clerk, who is off screen, before deciding to leave.

Fox News shared details of the altercation between Tate and the store clerk:

“I don’t mean no harm, I’m just not from around here,” Tate is heard saying while holding his weapon. “I got a big (expletive) (expletive) gun, but I’m not from around here is what I’m saying. I’m from Chicago bro.”

Tate is heard asking the employee what kind of weapon he is holding. The employee responds before Tate slowly walks out of the store.

“He then fumbles for words, resorting to meaningless babble about being from Chicago,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Words seem to fail you when your felony attempt is thwarted by lawful and righteous force.”

Tate was arrested on Sept. 15 in Santa Rose County, authorities said, adding “You’re not in Chicago anymore; you’re under arrest.”

Apparently the phrase “I’m from Chicago, bro” isn’t as intimidating as this guy had hoped…
