If you are living in the state of Florida and have children, you might want to pay attention to your mail in the next couple of weeks.
In an attempt to help many parents who are struggling due to inflation, Governor Ron DeSantis has sent out $450 for each child parents have in school.
The letter, many Floridians have received reads “To offset the costs of rising inflation, especially with a new school year approaching, the State of Florida is giving you $450 for each child in your care,” and at the bottom, it’s signed Governor Ron DeSantis.
Many people thought the letter was a scam but DeSantis himself clarified the checks are real.
Here’s what they look like:

To all the Florida families who randomly received a letter in the mail from Gov. Ron DeSantis with a check inside — don’t throw it away thinking it’s a scam!
The letters are real and are a one-time payment of $450 per child as part of the governor’s new budget, spokeswoman Christina Pushaw explains in a tweet.
In a photo posted on Twitter, the letter dated July 15 from DeSantis himself explains how he knows as a father of three young children that getting ready for a new school year can be “both exciting and stressful.”
“To offset the costs of rising inflation, especially with a new school year approaching, the State of Florida is giving you $450 for each child in your care,” the letter read.
The governor says the one-time payment can be used for anything from buying diapers to getting gas.
He also made sure to remind the families of Florida’s “Back-to-School” sales-tax holiday happening from July 25 until Aug. 7. Supplies such as clothing, bags, computers, shoes and other school supplies will be tax-free during that time.
“Please accept this payment as a form of gratitude and acknowledgment for all that you do to help nurture Florida’s future,” the governor wrote in the letter.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is sending out “one-time payments” of $450 per child to 59,000 families in the state, press representative Christina Pushaw confirmed.
DeSantis is currently campaigning for reelection going into a Nov. 8 gubernatorial election and is widely viewed as a frontrunner for the 2024 Republican ticket for president.
Pushaw shared a picture of a letter on Twitter that read:
“As a father of three young children, I know that getting ready for a new school year can be both exciting and stressful. To offset the costs of rising inflation, especially with a new school year approaching, the State of Florida is giving you $450 for each child in your care. This one-time payment can be used for anything from buying diapers to fueling at the pump. I also want to make sure you are aware of our state’s ‘Back-to-School’ sales-tax holiday, which will take place from July 25 to August 7, to help you get the supplies you need to prepare for the upcoming school year. Supplies that will be tax-free during this time include clothing, bags, computers, shoes and other school supplies.
