The Petito family has taken the Laundrie family to civil court in hopes of suing for civil damages…
Gabby Petitio’s parents claim that because Laundrie’s parents knew about the murder of their daughter, but chose to say nothing at the time, they are at fault.
Laundrie’s family did not appear in court but instead relied on legal counsel to state their case.
The legal counsel for the Laundrie family made the case that they had a constitutional right to protect their son under these circumstances and that any parent would have done the same thing when faced with a similar situation.
Legal pundits say that if the judge allows this civil suit to move forward it will set a new legal precedent pertaining to civil liability for failure to report crimes or aspects of crimes.
Here’s more on the story:
Fox News provided more details:
“Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie exhibited extreme and outrageous conduct which constitutes behavior, under the circumstances, which goes beyond all possible bounds of decency and is regarded as shocking, atrocious, and utterly intolerable in a civilized community,” the lawsuit alleges.
“As a direct and proximate result of the willfulness and maliciousness of Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie, Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt had been caused to suffer pain and suffering, mental anguish, inconvenience, loss of capacity for enjoyment of life experienced in the past and to be experienced in the future.”

According to The Independent:
Laundrie family attorney Steve Bertolino has described the allegations as “baseless” and is seeking to have the case thrown out, while the judge presiding over the case cited the defamation ruling against Johnny Depp, which was due to a statement made by his lawyer that Amber Heard’s abuse allegations were a “hoax”.
