14 Republicans Just Crossed the Aisle to Advance Liberal Agenda

In the wake of recent mass shootings, many leftist politicians have clamored for new gun control legislation.

When one such bill was put up for a vote in the U.S. Senate, Democrats got their wish with the help of 14 Republicans.

As Daily Wire reported:

Notable Republican senators, including Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Mitch McConnell (R-KY), helped Democrats pass a procedural vote, 64 to 34, a mere two hours after the text of the bill circulated.

The bill could be passed later this week by the Senate and then move onto the House, where it is expected to pass. The bill would then go to President Biden’s desk.

Notably, the 80-page legislation includes language on highly controversial so-called red flag laws.

According to Fox News, the bill “provides grants for states that implement their own red flag laws and offers additional funding for both school safety measures and mental health services.”

The debate over gun control has raged in recent weeks and many Republicans were outspoken in their opposition to such legislation.

Several prominent conservative pundits predicted that those GOP lawmakers who support gun control will pay the price at the polls.

Democrats on Capitol Hill are clearly excited at the prospect to put new limitations on the Second Amendment.

According to Yahoo:

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, said on the Senate Floor that the chamber will “move to final passage as soon as possible” and that he expects the bill to pass by the end of the week.

And House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, said in a statement, “After the Senate passes this bill, the House will swiftly bring it to the Floor so that we can send it to President Biden’s desk.”

President Joe Biden is expected to sign the legislation if it passes the Senate and the House.
