A potential terror incident at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland was thwarted on Sunday night, after two intruders drove through a security checkpoint.

One of the intruders was promptly arrested after both fled the stolen vehicle.

The 17-year-old individual was said to be armed.

The second suspect was not found, but law enforcement officials believe that this individual fled the scene.

The incident occurred right around the same time that Kamala Harris and four other Cabinet members had landed at the base.

The base was on lockdown for several hours thereafter.

A 17-year-old was arrested and another person got away after they drove through a checkpoint at the military base in Maryland that the president and the vice president use to travel to and from Washington, military officials said.

The teenager, who was not identified, was armed when he was apprehended, they said.

The security breach at Joint Base Andrews in Prince George’s County, Md., in suburban Washington, happened Sunday night at about the time that Vice President Kamala Harris and four Cabinet members landed at the base, which was put on lockdown for several hours.

Base officials said Monday that security personnel deployed barriers to block the intruders’ vehicle around 9 p.m. ET. The driver failed to follow the commands of personnel at the main gate.

Two persons exited the vehicle and ran away. Authorities caught and arrested one of them, an armed 17-year-old male who remains in custody.

No shots were fired during the incident, officials said.

Base officials said Prince George’s County Police, Maryland State Police, Metropolitan Police and the Office of Special Investigation helped clear the base, which reopened at 3 a.m. Monday.

The second suspect is still at large.
