Penzey’s Spice Company Runs “Republicans Are Racist” Sale; Loses 40,000 Customers

Whoops!

Penzey’s Spice Company has lost at least 40,000 customers and counting!

Here’s the lesson: don’t insult your customers by spreading lies about them.

The company ran a “Republicans are Racist” weekend sale.

Take a look at the emails they sent out:

They probably thought they were being brave and woke.

But it turns out they only angered their customer base.

So far, 40,000 people have unsubscribed to their email list.

And the number appears to be growing by the thousands every single day.

The Federalist confirms:

Just two weeks after a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based spice company held a “Republicans are Racist” sale over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, it is dealing with a massive loss of business and openly begging for new customers.

Penzey’s Spices CEO Bill Penzey, who routinely uses his company’s email list to send anti-Republican screeds, sent a newsletter earlier this month in which he accused GOP voters of fantasizing about killing African Americans.

“Remember how Republicans, going against a mountain of evidence to the contrary, once again lied and said BLM [Black Lives Matter] wasn’t a peaceful movement but instead terrorists inciting violence throughout the country and then raced out to buy a crapload of guns because maybe they were finally going to get their chance to shoot a Black person?” he wrote. “What a bunch of racists.”

In a follow-up email Friday, Penzey acknowledged this allegation had cost his business a substantial number of newsletter subscribers.

“After starting the year with All Republicans are Republicans and following up with Republicans are Racists we’ve set a nice little Boycott Penzeys! surge in motion,” he admitted. “It certainly wasn’t unexpected, but if it’s within your means, you picking up a small stack of Gift Cards would help.”

Penzey informed supporters that his “Republicans are Racists” email cost his newsletter 40,005 subscribers—approximately 3 percent of its total. While this was offset by 30,000 new fans, he explained, he still needs to make up for the lost business and is offering a deal on Penzey’s Spices gift cards to lure them in “with the hope this might make it a bit easier for you to share some and possibly get a few good new customers to replace the ones we’ve lost.”

His note then took on a more desperate tone, imploring fellow leftists to support his business by appealing to their base political biases.

“If you can’t even begin to fathom how to ‘compromise’ with January 6th, or the Republican vaccine lies needlessly killing 10,000 Americans every week, if you have no desire to become half-way racist, and if their intent to destroy our climate for one thousand years to come doesn’t have you asking: ‘What if we just destroyed it for five-hundred years instead?’ we would be better off with you on this Voice Of Cooking email list,” he wrote.

You know, there’s a saying:

You reap what you sow.

This company appeared to sow hate, and now they are reaping the backlash.

It’s called: actions have consequences.

Especially in business.

Could this be why Spotify doesn’t want to censor Joe Rogan?

They know that any political indication could disrupt their business.

Penzey’s appears to learning that lesson the hard way.

Even the mainstream media is picking up on the story.

Per Newsweek:

A Wisconsin-based spice company’s “Republicans Are Racists Weekend!” held on the weekend of Martin Luther King Jr. Day has mired the company in controversy leading to a boycott of thousands of customers, but the company is not apologizing.

On January 14, Penzey’s Spices sent an advertisement to its email list signed by company CEO Bill Penzey announcing the sale where customers would get a half-cup jar of spice for free with a $10 purchase. The promotion, which included the subhead “Cheese Off Racists For Free!,” also offered a free set of 10 heart-shaped stickers with the Black Lives Matter acronym with any purchase.

The company almost immediately felt the backlash as many customers unsubscribed from its email list in response. However, Penzey’s Spices did not back down from its stance.

On January 28, Penzey said in a signed post on the company’s Facebook page that Penzey’s Spices had lost more than 40,000 subscribers from its email list as a result. “We’ve set a nice little Boycott Penzeys! surge in motion,” the company wrote. “It certainly wasn’t unexpected, but if it’s within your means, you picking up a small stack of Gift Cards would help.”

Penzy’s also announced a new gift card sale to help them “possibly get a few good new customers to replace the ones we’ve lost.” It included a picture of the gift cards, embossed with the words “Choose Love,” and a message underneath that read “Calling out Republican racism has its costs. Please help us afford them.”

The move reflects a wider trend where companies that have opted to chime in on political issues have consequently seen pushback from some customers. Ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s, for example, received backlash after announcing this past summer that it was halting sales in West Bank and East Jerusalem because it was “inconsistent with our values.”

Why do leftists always want to insert politics into everything?

Just live, and let live!

So…

Where do you buy your spices?

There are a lot of people out there who are going to be purchasing gourmet spices from a new place.
