Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg Justifies Secret Paternity Leave Despite Supply Chain Crisis

The United States is under a supply chain crisis thanks to the Biden administration.

A few weeks ago, we reported that the backlog of cargo ships is said to be up over 50% in California.

We also recently reported that the government is paying farmers to destroy their crops.

It’s no conspiracy theory.

The Biden administration is manufacturing a supply crisis in America.

During this crisis, the person in charge of our ports, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, has been on paternity leave.

Buttigieg went on paternity leave in August after he adopted twins with his husband.

 

Instead of alerting the taxpayers that he would be taking paternity leave, Buttigieg silently ghosted from his role.

He also took his paternity leave amidst a historic transportation crisis!

The Biden administration has strategically kept quiet about Buttigieg’s paternity leave.

Clearly, leaving your post during a looming crisis is terrible optics.

However, many have taken note and are spreading the information far and wide.

Now that the Transportation Secretary is finally back from leave, he’s finding himself justifying his absence to America.

Buttigieg is going on the defense, claiming he is “pro-family.”

His fellow Democrats support his decision and time off.

Bonding with your new children is lovely.

However, part of the reason for paternity leave is to help the recovering mother.

By negating that aspect of postpartum leave, you take away from the whole reason behind the push for parental leave in the first place.

If you have a critical taxpayer-funded position and didn’t birth the child, why do you need so much time off?

Buttigieg seems okay deserting the American people during a crisis to take a political stance for Biden’s “pro-family” agenda.

Biden deserted Americans in Afghanistan, so of course, Buttigieg could justify his leave.

Typically, someone fills in for you when you can’t make it to work.

Wasn’t the position of Transportation Secretary important enough to fill during an absence?

Or was the absence deliberate by the Biden administration?

The White House would have had to approve Buttigieg’s request for time off, but they are not confirming or denying that question.

The Western Journal has more on the story:

“For the first four weeks, he was mostly offline except for major agency decisions and matters that could not be delegated,” a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation told the outlet. “He has been ramping up activities since then.”

The DOT spokesperson added Buttigieg will “continue to take some time over the coming weeks to support his husband and take care of his new children.”

A spokesperson for the Office of Personnel Management told Politico that Biden would have approved his transportation secretary’s request for paternity leave. That is because people who work for the executive branch directly are not covered by the paid family leave policies like other federal workers.

“Individuals in the executive branch who are appointed by the President to positions in the Executive Schedule are not covered by the leave system,” the office spokesperson said. “They do not earn leave and serve at the pleasure of the President.”

“The President can choose to allow him to take time off.”

The White House would not confirm or deny if Biden had approved Buttigieg’s time off.

“Pete’s been a key member of the team since Day One, and has been critical as we shepherd the President’s agenda across the finish line,” the White House said in a statement. “We’re overjoyed for him and Chasten, and believe every American should have access to paid family leave.”

It seems like the perfect ingredients for a supply chain crisis of epic proportions.

Besides showing what an utter failure the Biden administration is, the supply crisis also highlights how dependent many are on foreign products.

For example, Americans may soon find themselves without the newest iPhone.

Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is finally feeling the heat from the supply crisis.

Now, the company has a hard time finding chips for their phones.

If it can happen to a powerful company like Apple, it can happen to anyone.

Apple is now likely to slash its projected iPhone 13 production targets for 2021 by as many as 10 million units, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.

For months, while supply chain shocks rocked the electronic, automaking, and even commodities industries, Apple remained the one company that could secure the chips needed to keep selling its latest range of products, due to its well-managed supply chain and the prestige of meeting its exacting standards.

But the recent setback for Apple has dashed any hopes that the supply-chain crisis was easing.

“If this is happening to the most powerful company,” it could happen to anyone, said Neil Campling, an analyst at Mirabaud Securities. Given “they have huge power in terms of their ability to source semiconductors as such a key customer, then everyone else will be having greater issues than they are.”

Apple’s scaleback is a clear sign that the supply disruptions that have wreaked havoc around the world are worsening, which may jeopardize the outlook for the post-pandemic economic recovery. Almost all major manufacturers have been impacted both by a lack of key materials such as semiconductors, but also an inability to get finished goods into the hands of consumers.

If Apple is having issues, what does that say for the rest of us?

Regardless of Buttigieg’s bad optics, the Biden administration should claim responsibility for the supply chain crisis and work to fix it.

Instead, they deflect and display a “pro-family” agenda with Buttigieg front-and-center.

Perhaps this is the push we need to dedicate ourselves to supporting American-made products.
