Jen Psaki has found herself on the wrong end of several jokes and memes due to her trademark response to questions from reporters, saying that she’d have to “circle back” to the question.
It’s a far cry from the confidence and quick wit that Kayleigh McEnany provided as President Donald Trump’s press secretary.
McEnany, who recently became a Fox News analyst, responded to a supercut of Jen Psaki telling reporters she’d have to circle back to their questions.
McEnanay said she didn’t have to circle back to questions from reporters because President Trump always gave her access.
McEnany showed great restraint in not throwing Psaki completely under the bus, but instead pointed to the fact that Psaki is not provided the same access to the president that McEnany was.
Fox News has more:
Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday she didn't need to a "ton of circling back" with reporters because of the access afforded her by former President Donald Trump, in a reference to successor Jen Psaki's go-to line when she can't directly answer questions.
Reacting to a "Fox & Friends" montage of Psaki saying she would "circle back" with various reporters during her six weeks with the Biden White House, McEnany said she had the advantage of knowing where Trump stood on issues.
"I wish Jen Psaki all the best, it is a very hard job but that being said, we took great pains in our administration to do hours and hours of research beforehand, days sometimes," she said.
"I always knew where my boss stood. Unlike other press secretaries who maybe didn't have walk-in privileges, I could walk in at any time ... I always knew where his head was at, so I didn't have to a ton of circling back because President Trump gave a lot of access to me."
McEnany was interviewed in a segment on Fox & Friends, where she was asked about Jen Psaki's "circle back" comments.
For her part, McEnany has wished all the best to Psaki in her new job as press secretary.
As for Psaki, she says she'd gladly take part in an interview with McEnany.
Here's more on the relationship between the two from the Daily Wire:
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said she’d be “happy” to be interviewed by Kayleigh McEnany, who served as press secretary for former President Donald Trump.
It was announced Tuesday that McEnany has joined Fox News as a contributor.
“A little bit of news on the media front. Your predecessor, Kayleigh McEnany, has just signed on as a Fox News contributor,” a reporter told Psaki during the Tuesday press briefing. “I’m wondering if you have any good wishes for her, advice, and if she does have a show, if you’d be willing to go on it.”
“Sure,” the press secretary responded. “I’ve done Fox News Sunday twice now. I’m happy to go on a range of shows.”
“I will say that I knew Kayleigh a little bit, not well,” Psaki continued. “I met her when we were both CNN contributors and we did a few shows — I’m not sure how many — together.”
“Like many Americans, we disagree on political issues, but we talked about our families, our spouses, sports, all sorts of things in the green room, and I certainly wish her the best in her future endeavors,” she added.
On Jan. 20, McEnany posted messages of support for Psaki, communications director Kate Bedingfield, principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, and senior adviser and chief spokeswoman Symone Sanders.
“Wishing all the best to President [Joe Biden’s] incoming press & communications team,” McEnany tweeted, captioning a photo of letters she left to the communications team.
“Sending my prayers as you begin your service to the American people!” McEnany added.
Moreover, on Tuesday, McEnany noted that when she met Psaki she was “very kind,” as well as “some of her colleagues in the press shop.”
Perhaps the reason Psaki can't answer questions is because Joe Biden is simply unavailable.
Has anyone heard from him lately?
One thing is for sure...
McEnany was much better at answering questions.
