The corruption that has devoured the Democratic party is not without consequences.

On Wednesday, another former Democrat cut ties with the corrupt party, instead joining the Republican ranks.

Rep Vernon Jones of Georgia made the announcement of his defection to the Republican party Wednesday morning on Twitter.

Jones tweeted:

“Moments ago, I announced that I am officially joining the Republican Party.”

“Now more than ever, the Republican Party is in desperate need of leaders that know how to fight.”

“I know how to fight.”

God bless you Vernon, and welcome to the fight.

Jones leaves the Democrat party with intentions of gaining more black voices and support for the GOP.

With more on Vernon Jones' decision, here's The Blaze:

"Lifelong Democrat" and Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones is no longer a Democrat.

The Trump-supporting state lawmaker and former chief executive officer for DeKalb County announced on Wednesday that he is officially leaving the Democratic Party and joining the GOP.

"Now more than ever, the Republican Party is in desperate need of leaders that know how to fight. I know how to fight," Jones tweeted.

Jones earned national attention last April when, as a Democrat, he endorsed President Donald Trump for re-election, saying that Trump's handling of the economy and his support for criminal justice reform had earned his support. Since then he's campaigned for Republicans in Georgia, including Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, and attracted scorn and derision from the left.

In recent interviews, he's said that the Republican Party needs to improve its outreach to black voters.

"The face of the Republican party is going to be African-American men," Jones told Newsmax TV host Rob Schmitt Tuesday night as the returns from the Georgia runoff special election were counted. "African-American men, 2 million more voted for the president. The president has cracked the wall on getting African-American men votes."

"But I did not see a significant effort for the African-American community in terms of voter get out for the Republican candidates," he added. "They have not learned that yet. [Sen. Kelly] Loeffler nor [Sen. David] Perdue put together a real stiff team to go after the African American vote."

Fox News has more on the newest remember of the Republican party, and his decision to change allegiances:

He has repeatedly accused Democrats and their supporters of being "thugs," calling them a "left-wing mob." Jones has also blamed criticism from his party for supporting Trump on the fact that he is African American.

Meanwhile, Georgia Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock made history Tuesday night after becoming the first Black senator in his state.

Jones' party swap comes on the same day Congress is slated to hold what is sure to be a contentious joint session to certify the results of the presidential election, which Trump and his supporters have maintained was rigged despite no evidence to support his claims. Several Republican members of Congress have pledged to vote against certifying the election for President-elect Joe Biden.

Jones is being welcomed to the party with open arms.

Hopefully even more politicians continue to follow this trend.

The Democrat party is a disgrace to the country, and we need more people to follow the lead of patriots such as Vernon Jones.
