How quickly the tides can turn!
Yesterday, we reported that pro-Trump Democrat Vernon Jones announced that he would resign immediately rather than seek re-election.
Jones decided to resign after overwhelming pressure from the Democratic base.
After the Georgia representative endorsed President Trump, he received fierce backlash from the far left, many of whom used racial slurs against him.
But after announcing his resignation, Jones received so much support from Republicans, centrist Democrats, and Independents that he has changed his mind!
In a recorded video statement on Twitter, Jones declared, “I will NOT resign!”
He has also vowed to fight against liberal “bullies” and plans to continue fighting for the reelection of President Trump.
More details on this rapidly developing story below:
"I didn't leave the Democratic party. The Party left me."
Vernon Jones is just one of many black Americans who has joined the so-called #Blexit ("black exit") movement.
Though Jones maintains that he is still a Democrat and doesn't intend on switching over to the GOP, his Twitter profile states "Country Over Party."
According to the Washington Times, the overwhelming online support prompted Jones to change his mind:
Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones has changed his mind about resigning from the state legislature, announcing Thursday that he would “remain on the battlefield” despite the Democratic outcry over his endorsement of President Trump.
Mr. Jones, a black Democrat, said he received “an overwhelming amount of support” from his constituents, as well as “fellow Georgians and fellow Americans from across this country,” after declaring Wednesday that he had “left the plantation” and would step down.
“You know what, America?” said Mr. Jones in an online video. “I thought about it, and I talked to my family and I talked to my supporters, and because of what you did for me, I am going to remain on the battlefield. I am going to complete my term, I am going to put my country before my party.”
He added, “That was emotion. That was motivation.”
The Atlanta Journal Constitution confirms:
“That was emotional and that was motivational,” he said. “Because of what you did for me, I’m going to remain on the battlefield. I’m going to complete my term. I’m going to continue to put my country before my party. And I’m going to do everything I can to get Donald J. Trump elected.”
A polarizing figure in Georgia politics for years, Jones said he will not allow backlash from other members of the Democratic Party to “bully (him) into submission.”
Though the left claims to be the party of tolerance and open-mindedness, they have a pattern of belittling anyone who doesn't toe the party line.
More and more Democrats like Vernon Jones are beginning to endorse the president's reelection campaign, especially after they see how he has delivered on his promises for all Americans.
Many notable leaders like Ted Cruz have congratulated Jones on his decision.
The Trump reelection campaign has made it clear that they will attempt to reach out to black voters like no other Republican candidate.
Trump continues to make historic inroads with minority communities, especially given the strength of the U.S. economy before the COVID-19 pandemic and Trump's efforts to minimize the pandemics consequences.
According to CNS News, Vernon Jones warned that "an uprising is near" and suggested that Democrats might not be able to rely on the black vote for much longer:
“I will never apologize for my convictions,” Jones said Tuesday in the first of several tweets taking issue with his party’s treatment of Black Americans:
“I’m not surprised that the Democratic Party has chosen to rent out my suite on the plantation to my opponent. I will never apologize for my convictions.”
“The modern day Democratic Party has become more about defending the interests of illegals than it has the actual American people.
“I take issue with that.”
“Black Americans are waking up. An uprising is near,” Jones declared in one post:
“I’ve seen more Democrats attack me for my decision to endorse @realDonaldTrump than ask me why. They’ve used and abused folks in my community for far too long, taking our votes for granted. Black Americans are waking up. An uprising is near.”
Candace Owens, a leader of the Blexit movement seeking to introduce conservative values to urban communities, replied to Jones’ post, praising him for his courage:
“A Democratic Georgia state house representative has worked up the courage to speak out against the plantation treatment by his own party toward black voters.
“He has awakened and is now under attack. #BLEXIT”
Thank you, Vernon Jones, for standing up for your convictions!
May your example lead others to do the same!
Jones now has over 50,000 followers on Twitter and is quickly becoming a new face of the #Blexit movement.
