John Bolton Turns Down Adam Schiff’s Request to Submit Sworn Affidavit

It appears that Democrats got burned again.

Shortly after the Senate voted to not pursue any further witnesses, Adam Schiff reached out to John Bolton and requested that he submit a sworn affidavit.

John Bolton refused.

Needless to say, Adam Schiff is not happy, but then again, the Democrats don’t have much to celebrate these days.

Check it out:

USA Today reports:

Rep. Adam Schiff, who served as the lead House impeachment manager in the trial of President Donald Trump, said former national security adviser John Bolton declined to sign an affidavit about what he knew after the Senate voted against calling more witnesses.

"After they voted to be the first impeachment trial in history without witnesses, we did approach John Bolton's counsel, asked if Mr. Bolton would be willing to submit an affidavit under oath describing what he observed in terms of the president's Ukraine misconduct, and he refused," Schiff told MSNBC Wednesday night on "The Rachel Maddow Show."

"For whatever reason, he apparently was willing to testify before the Senate, but apart from that, seems intent on saving it for his book," said Schiff, D-Calif. "He'll have to answer for that."

Attorney Charles Cooper, who represents Bolton, did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment on Schiff's claim.

Calls for Bolton to testify about what he knew began during the House impeachment inquiry into allegations Trump used military aid to pressure Ukraine into announcing investigations for his personal political benefit.

The pleas for his testimony increased after Fiona Hill, a former National Security Council official, testified that Bolton wanted no part of the Ukraine pressure campaign, which he derided as a "drug deal" cooked up by acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland. But Bolton refused to come before the investigating House committees without a court order and the Democrats leading the investigation declined to subpoena him, claiming a lengthy court battle would delay the impeachment process so long that it would make it pointless.
