House Dems are giving no reason to counter the allegations against them that certain members of their party are stepping over the line when it comes to illegal immigration by coaching them on how to cross into our country illegaly and exploit loopholes to stay in the U.S.
There have already been accusations against Rep. Veronica Escobar – a Democrat congresswoman who has allegedly been sending her staff to the border to instruct illegal immigrants to lie to border authorities that they don’t speak Spanish so they can remain in America.
Following that accusation, more evidence has piled onto the suspicion that Dems are doing sketchy things in Mexico related to “helping” immigrants, including numerous unexplained trips made by House Oversight Committee members to Mexico.
Now, House Republicans, led by Jim Jordan, are demanding that Dems answer for these mysterious excursions.
Take a look at this breaking news that hit Twitter:
Fox News has more details:
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee are calling on their Democratic colleagues to provide more details about a series of trips taken to Mexico while staff were touring border detention facilities, amid reports that at least one Democrat has been involved in “coaching” migrants there on how to exploit U.S. immigration law.
In a letter to Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., obtained by Fox News, ranking member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said there were at least two committee staff trips into Mexico in August — one of which required Border Patrol agents to provide a special escort back into the U.S.
“Although you have the authority to direct Committee staff to travel internationally on official committee business, you have not explained why you authorized this travel into Mexico or what you sought to learn through these trips,” Jordan wrote, adding that Republicans were not notified of the trips.
Jordan went on to accuse Democrats of seeking “to delegitimize the administration’s border security efforts and vilify the men and women who protect our border.” He said GOP members are concerned the trips “could continue to result in misleading information about the administration’s border security efforts.”
Fox News has reached out to Cummings' office for a response to Republicans' claims.
Specifically, Jordan highlighted a report that said Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, was in attendance on one trip to Tijuana on Aug. 21. Escobar, who is not on the Oversight Committee, has been a vocal advocate of left-wing policies on illegal immigration.
Related to the aforementioned Veronica Escobar allegations, IJR added:
Jordan also noted that an August 21 trip also included Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) — who took over former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s (D-Texas) congressional seat after his failed senatorial bid against Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) — who does not sit on the House Oversight Committee, prompting Republicans to question why she was included in the visit.
The House Oversight ranking member also asked the Democrats who they met with on the trip, what kind of “coaching” Escobar’s staff told migrants if there was any, and why the trip was undertaken in the first place.
A July report by the Washington Examiner alleged that Escobar’s staff was “coaching” illegal migrants on how to use a loophole in immigration law to come back to the country. Escobar denied the allegations, claiming the article was “fabricated” in a tweet.
Escobar has been a vocal supporter of progressive policies regarding illegal immigration.
