Italy’s Deputy PM Matteo Salvini ripped actor Richard Gere for calling on Europe to let in North African migrants. Salvini said,
“Given that this generous millionaire is voicing concern for the fate of the Open Arms migrants, we thank him: he can take back to Hollywood, on his private plane, all the people aboard and support them in his villas. Thank you Richard!”
Turns out Americans aren’t the only ones sick of Hollywood liberal hypocrisy!
Check out the awesome responses Salvini telling Gere to let immigrants into his mansion if he really cares about them is getting on Twitter:
Richard Gere had previously appeared in a video delivering supplies to migrants (but of course, not taking them back with him!)
Bloomberg has more to say about Salvini's harsh words for Gere:
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini suggested Richard Gere fly 160 migrants stranded off the Italian coast back to Hollywood on his “private jet” after the actor made a plea to European leaders to find a port for the ship.
Gere joined representatives from the non-governmental organization Open Arms at a press conference on the Italian island of Lampedusa to appeal to take in the ship. Salvini has refused to allow the vessel into Italian waters, the latest episode highlighting Europe’s divisions over immigration.
“As the generous millionaire airs his demands about the fate of the Open Arms immigrants, we thank him: he will be able to bring everyone in his private jet to Hollywood and keep them in his villas,” Salvini said in a statement after Gere’s press conference.Salvini has made a flagship policy of refusing to allow the migrant vessels, coming mostly from nearby North Africa, to enter Italian waters. Now in the first steps of a months-long electoral campaign, Salvini is likely to double down on the anti-immigrant rhetoric that’s made him Italy’s most popular politician for now.
The Western Journal also said:
When it comes to illegal immigration, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini feels the same way as many Americans.
According to The Independent, in response to actor Richard Gere saying that North African migrants should be permitted into Europe, Salvini said: “Given that this generous millionaire is voicing concern for the fate of the Open Arms migrants, we thank him: he can take back to Hollywood, on his private plane, all the people aboard and support them in his villas. Thank you Richard!”
Salvini, who also serves as Italy’s interior minister, took issue with remarks Gere made from the Mediterranean Sea, where he was delivering food and water to stranded refugees, The Independent reported.
Gere, as is the case with many Hollywood stars who are used to performing like drama queens, said politics must be pushed aside and that “demonizing people has to stop everywhere on the planet, and it will stop if we say stop.”
