Former ICE Director Tom Homan left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez speechless at a hearing over illegal immigration.
When confronted by AOC over his signing of a recommendation on handling of a family of illegal immigrants, Homan schooled the “young bartender” representative on the facts of the situation.
Ocasio-Cortez stated that Homan recommended “family-separation.”
Homan corrected her, “I recommended zero-tolerance.”
He then brilliantly added, “The same it is with every U.S. citizen parent gets arrested with their child. If I get arrested for a DUI and I have a young child in the car, I’m going to be separated.”
AOC retorted by saying that “seeking asylum is legal.”
Homan again schooled her, “If you want to seek asylum, then go to a port of entry. Do it the legal way.”
AOC didn’t seem to know how to respond after that one!
Watch the full firey exchange between Homan and AOC here:
AOC must have realized that her response to Homan was ineffectual.
After the hearing was over, AOC took to Twitter to respond to Homan:
However, that didn't stop her from getting ridiculed while Homan was praised over his excellent handling of the situation by making AOC face the FACTS of how illegal immigrants are treated for their crimes!
Take a look at what people are saying about the exchange at the hearing on Twitter:
The Washington Examiner also had the following to say about Homan's shut-down of AOC's lies:
Thomas Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, engaged Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a fiery exchange during a House Oversight Committee hearing on the treatment of migrant families.Â
Â"The recommendation, of the many you recommended, you recommended family separation," the New York Democrat said to Homan.Â
Â"I recommended zero-tolerance," he responded, referring to the Trump administration's hard-line immigration policy that resulted in migrant family separations. "The same it is with every U.S. citizen parent gets arrested with their child."Â
     Â                Â
ÂHe added, "If I get arrested for a DUI and I have a young child in the car, I'm going to be separated."Â
ÂThe freshman congresswoman said asylum seekers should not be arrested because the act of seeking asylum is not a crime. Homan snapped back, noting that some asylum seekers cross the border illegally instead of presenting themselves at ports of entry. "If you want to seek asylum, then go to a port of entry. Do it the legal way. The attorney general of the United States has made that clear," he told Ocasio-Cortez.Â
ÂOcasio-Cortez said "OK" and moved on.Â
