DEMOCRAT Governor of Louisiana Breaks With Party, Says He’ll Sign ‘Heartbeat Law’!

In what represents a major break with his party and their controversial position on abortion, the Democrat Governor of Louisiana has stated his intention to support and sign the pro-life “heartbeat” abortion law!

This law would ban abortions after an unborn child’s heartbeat is detected, which is around six weeks into the gestation period.

The Louisiana Governor, John Bel Edwards, is a one-of-a-kind pro-life Democrat, in a party that has recently pushed late term, and in some cases partial-birth abortions.

“When I ran for governor, I said I was pro-life and so that’s something that’s consistent,” he stated when he was asked about the ‘heartbeat’ law and signing the bill, reported Fox News.

According to the Daily Wire:

The governor’s position is far from his Democratic counterparts. For example, in January, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo celebrated a bill permitting abortion up to the moment of birth in the state for essentially any reason.

That same month, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam endorsed abortion-til-birth and infanticide during a radio interview.

“When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother,” Northam said.

And during the 2016 presidential election, the party’s nominee, Hillary Clinton, supported abortion up until the moment of birth without restriction and said she’d work to end the Hyde Amendment, which currently stops the federal government (your tax dollars) from funding abortion.

Franklin Graham and other prominent pro-life figures voiced their appreciation:

According to Fox News:

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards reportedly signaled he would sign his state’s “heartbeat” legislation — effectively banning abortions after just weeks of pregnancy — as his party faced questions over whether it should be more inclusive of pro-life voices.

“When I ran for governor, I said I was pro-life and so that’s something that’s consistent,” he reportedly said when asked about the bill on Thursday.

The bill, which awaited a vote from the Louisiana House of Representatives, would make the state one of the strictest on abortion access — following a slew of other states that passed restrictions in an apparent attempt to make the Supreme Court reconsider major precedent on the issue.

Pro-life advocates have heralded measures like “heartbeat” legislation while groups like Planned Parenthood have challenged them in a series of legal battles. Louisiana’s bill could face a lawsuit from the same group — the American Civil Liberties Union — that sued Ohio over its own “heartbeat” legislation.

Let’s see if this starts a trend. Stay tuned.
