Many believe that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy will run opposed in his bid to become the new House Speaker once republicans regain the majority.
However, at least one MAGA republican says “not so fast.”
Andy Biggs is the former House Freedom Caucus Chairman, and he’s not so certain that McCarthy is the right man for the job.
“I think we need to have a real discussion about whether he should be the speaker or not,” Biggs proclaimed on Thursday.
Biggs believes that McCarthy may not be a strong enough candidate for the party:
“He’s back-pedaled on things like impeachment. In some ways, that indicates a willingness to be weakening the oversight authority that we need to have, and the leverage points we need to have in order to deal with a Democrat president.”

Former House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) is likely to run against House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to become the next speaker of the House if Republicans lock down a majority in the lower chamber, a member of the powerful conservative group confirmed on Sunday.
Biggs has been critical of McCarthy’s leadership in the minority, voicing concerns that the California Republican won’t prioritize issues important to the far-right flank of the party. CNN reported the news of Biggs’s likely bid against McCarthy.
“I think we need to have a real discussion about whether he should be the speaker or not,” Biggs told reporters on Thursday.

“I would say maybe, not so fast,” Biggs said of a McCarthy speakership on The Absolute Truth with Emerald Robinson podcast. “Maybe we should have a good discussion within the confines of our internal body. Look, we were told we were going to have an incredible, incredible wave. And if that were to have been the case, a 20, 30, 40 seat margin, you would say, ‘well Kevin’s the presumptive Republican nominee for Speaker.’”
