Stand-up comedian, writer and actor Jak Knight passed away at 28-years-old on Thursday night in Los Angeles, his family confirmed to TODAY.

“No cause of death was given and his family asked for privacy going forward,” TODAY noted.

Knight is known for co-creating and starring in the Peacock comedy series “Bust Down.”

He recently finished filming “First Time Female Director,” the feature directorial debut of Chelsea Peretti, Variety reported.

The project was to be his first film credit.

From TODAY:

Knight also played Devon on the hit animated Netflix series “Big Mouth” and was previously a writer on the show for five seasons.

He also was a renowned stand-up comic and toured worldwide. He was featured in a 2018 Netflix special as part of “The Comedy Lineup” series.

The Hollywood Reporter added:

His death came as a shock to the comedy community, with many insiders expressing grief and disbelief on Friday. “We are devastated by the passing of Jak Knight,” reads a joint statement from Knight’s Bust Down family Peacock and Universal Television. “He was a brilliant comedian, visionary and artist and we were all lucky to experience his greatness. Our hearts are with Jak’s family, friends and community during this heartbreaking time.”

Comedy Central, which named Knight a comic to watch, posted a tribute on its official Twitter account, calling him “a hysterical and honest comedian. We will miss him tremendously.” Music producer, DJ and rapper Steven Ellison, best known by his stage name Flying Lotus or FlyLo, called Knight “unapologetically bold and hilarious.”

Nick Nemeroff, another beloved member of the comedy community, passed away last month.
