Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate John Fetterman is recovering after suffering a stroke, he announced Sunday.
In a statement, the 52-year-old Fetterman said he was hospitalized on Friday due to not feeling well.
He then learned he suffered a stroke that was caused by a clot from his “heart being in an A-fib rhythm for too long.”
Fetterman said that despite the stroke, he will remain in the Senate race.

NBC Philadelphia reported:
“The amazing doctors here were able to quickly and completely remove the clot, reversing the stroke, they got my heart under control as well,” Fetterman wrote. “It’s a good reminder to listen to your body and be aware of the signs.”
Fetterman said he is feeling much better and that he didn’t suffer any “cognitive damage.” He is currently staying at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital.
“They’re keeping me here for now for observation, but I should be out of here sometime soon,” Fetterman wrote. “The doctors have assured me that I’ll be able to get back on the trail, but first I need to take a minute, get some rest, and recover.”

His statement reads that he “didn’t want to go” to the hospital, but that he was glad he did so, as it resulted in the revelation that he had a blood clot in his heart that caused the stroke after it was “beating in an A-fib rhythm for too long.”
The doctors were able to reverse the stroke.
Fetterman is the frontrunner in the Democrat race for Senate in Pennsylvania. He faces a contentious slate of GOP candidates, from Dr. Mehmet Oz, who has been supported by Trump, to Kathy Barnette, an upstart candidate who has captured the hearts of many on the GOP side for her direct and forthright style.
Fetterman tweeted last year that his entire family was fully vaccinated and boosted.
