These are the people entrusted with upholding the laws of the nation…….

According to reports, Somerset County District Attorney Jeffrey Lynn Thomas has been arrested on charges of rape.

Authorities allege that Thomas entered the home of the victim without permission and refused to leave. The assault was reported at 11:00 PM on Saturday.

Previous reports also show that behavior at the District Attorney’s office was concerning and less than professional.

Thomas’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 29th 2021:

CBS Pittsburgh reports:

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro released a statement, saying:

“The charges this defendant is facing for a violent attack are deeply disturbing. Mr. Thomas is entrusted by the public to uphold the law and serve as a voice for victims. I commend the bravery of the victim that has come forward — that is never an easy thing to do, especially when your abuser is a powerful elected official. Today is a reminder that no one is above the law.”

A previous report from The Tribune Democrat indicates that drinking was a problem in Thomas’ office:

“Somerset County can be liable for injuries caused by intoxicated employees,” the county’s Human Resources director, Jodi Lepley, wrote in a one-page letter to Thomas. “While you have supervisory responsibility for these employees under Section 1620 of the County Code, the county commissioners carry the liability insurance for them.”

Lepley added that workplace alcohol use is “inconsistent with the behavior expected of employees, subjects all employees, clients and visitors to our agencies to unacceptable risks and … threatens the integrity of Somerset County.”

Thomas said Monday he wasn’t familiar with the county’s workplace drug and alcohol policy.
